According to an essay King wrote for the Bangor Historical Society, he and his wife, Tabitha, moved to Bangor in 1979, choosing it over larger Portland, two hours south, because they fell in love with the house, the tree-lined street, and the fact that their kids could walk to school. Their kids were less enamored of the place at first (King’s eldest son believed there were ghosts in the turrets).
The area afforded useful fodder for several of King’s most famous works—including “It,” which he wrote there and was published in 1986. In fact, Derry, the fictional town in “It,” was based on Bangor. King once wrote that “any native of this city will recognize [Derry] almost at once as Bangor.”
Indeed, many real-life places in Bangor, including the Thomas Hill Standpipe and the Kenduskeag Stream canals, appear in “It” and other novels, including “Insomnia,” “Dreamcatcher,” “11/22/63,” and others.

Teacher Punished For Giving Oral Sex To Students
If this woman, Jill Meldrum-Jones, looks to you like she’s feeling terrified, that could well be the case. She admitted to doing something completely wrong and inexusable on an airplane (and other places), lost her teaching career and faces jail time because of what she did.
You would think a married teaching assistant and mother of two living and working in England would enjoy a chance to chaperone and be part of a four-day school trip to South Africa just for the break, wouldn’t you?
Wouldn’t you expect that a 37-year-old teaching assistant, who is also a wife and mother, would teach the kids about South Africa since that’s where the class was going? But instead, Meldrum-Jones went where she shouldn’t have ever gone at all…
On the airplane full of students, Jill Meldrum-Jones sexually molested a 15-year-old student of hers by masturbating him and giving him oral sex during the flight home to England from South Africa. She actually admitted to doing those two acts three times each during the 10 hour flight “under the cover of darkness.”
Even worse, this wasn’t the first time Meldrum-Jones had performed sex acts on this child. She told the court there were several other occasions she engaged in sexual acts with this student during this school trip. The teaching assistant admitted that the first time she performed a sex act on the child was on a mini-bus on the way back from a day-long excursion. In addition to the charges of child molestation, Meldrum-Jones pled guilty to two counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity which involved him performing oral sex on her.
After the South Africa school trip, rumors about something going on with the teaching assistant and student were circulating and the two were often seen going for walks together. The school can’t be named to protect the child. Under questioning by authorities, Meldrum-Jones admitted what she’d done before pleading guilty in court.
Jill Meldrum-Jones was given a jail sentence of two years, eight months. She has been added to the sex-offender registry list.

Faced with new allegations against President Trump and administration stonewalling, Democrats have ended months of caution.
WASHINGTON — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi spoke on the House floor before the House vote on a resolution to formalize impeachment proceedings, marking a significant step in the ongoing inquiry into Impeaching President Trump… Tweets by @Loungtastic “The actions taken to date by the president have seriously violated the Constitution,” she said after emerging from a meeting of House Democrats in the basement of the Capitol. Mr. Trump, she said, “must be held accountable. No one is above the law.”The announcement was a stunning development that unfolded after months of caution by House Democrats, who have been divided over using the ultimate remedy to address what they have called flagrant misconduct by the president.
In this case, with an avalanche of Democrats — including many who had resisted the move — now demanding it, Ms. Pelosi said that Mr. Trump’s reported actions, and his administration’s refusal to share details about the matter with Congress, have left the House no alternative outside of impeachment. The inquiry has the potential to reshape Mr. Trump’s presidency and to cleave an already divided nation only a year before he plans to stand for re-election.
At issue are allegations that Mr. Trump pressured the president of Ukraine to open a corruption investigation of former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., a leading contender for the Democratic presidential nomination, and his son. The conversation is said to be part of a whistle-blower complaint that the Trump administration has withheld from Congress.
Mr. Trump said on Tuesday that he would authorize the release of a transcript of the conversation, practically daring Democrats to try to find an impeachable offense in a conversation that he has called “perfect.” But Democrats, after months of holding back, demanded the full whistle-blower complaint, even as they pushed toward an expansive impeachment inquiry that could encompass unrelated charges.
“The actions of the Trump presidency revealed dishonorable facts of the president’s betrayal of his oath of office, betrayal of our national security, and betrayal of the integrity of our elections,” Ms. Pelosi said.
In a meeting on Tuesday afternoon, Ms. Pelosi told senior Democrats that the chairmen of the six committees that have been investigating Mr. Trump for various issues would put together their best cases on potentially impeachable offenses by the president and send them to the Judiciary Committee, according to two officials familiar with the conversation. That could potentially lay the groundwork for articles of impeachment based on the findings.
The decision to begin a formal impeachment inquiry does not necessarily mean that the House will ultimately vote to charge Mr. Trump with high crimes and misdemeanors — much less that the Republican-controlled Senate will vote to remove him. But Ms. Pelosi and her leadership would not initiate the process unless they were prepared to reach that outcome.

Yes, it’s a fucking sex house. The 5-bedroom, 2.5-bath home just went on the market, and yes, the furniture — sex swing and all — is included in the $750,000 listing price.
“Total suburban beautiful home,” the listing’s realtor Melissa Leonard told BuzzFeed News. “But the twist is it has this sex oasis in the basement.”
According to Leonard, the owner lived there with his family for years, until his wife died and he moved with his family to Philadelphia. In the meantime, he set up the house as an Airbnb to rent out over the last few months.
The Airbnb listing is titled “Maison XS – Just Be You” and has photos of the “underground adult room” with moody lighting. The Airbnb rents for $750 per night (yes, there is also a $250 cleaning fee, which seems exceedingly reasonable).
Maple Glen, where the home is located, is a sleepy suburb of Philadelphia with good schools and fewer than 10,000 residents. The sex house is located on a private street with just two other neighbors. Leonard is not sure what the neighbors think of the sex house, or if they know at all.
The home listing went viral on social media within hours of showing up on real estate site Redfin. Leonard is delighted by the attention and hoping for a buyer who sees a unique opportunity. “The big question I get from other realtors is, ‘How did you keep a straight face?'” she said.

The mystery of how the neighbors feel has been resolved. In an interview with Slate, realtor Melissa Leonard was interrupted by an angry neighbor. Slate’s Dan Kois, on the other end of the phone, overheard this:

After 37 years of living in this small Maine city, the literal King of horror novels is decamping elsewhere.
Apparently, he’s been spending more time at his summer home in Center Lovell, ME, a lake region near the New Hampshire border, and catching the Sunshine State’s rays in Casey Key, FL.
As for the home King’s leaving behind, it’s as creepy as you’d expect. While interior photos aren’t available, the exterior says it all, with a wrought-iron fence adorned in bats, spiderwebs, and an ornate letter “K” surrounding a blood-red Victorian house topped with towers and turrets. This 1870 home won’t be on the market for regular folks to snap up, nor will it be turned into a tourist attraction akin to Graceland.

The area afforded useful fodder for several of King’s most famous works—including “It,” which he wrote there and was published in 1986. In fact, Derry, the fictional town in “It,” was based on Bangor. King once wrote that “any native of this city will recognize [Derry] almost at once as Bangor.”
Indeed, many real-life places in Bangor, including the Thomas Hill Standpipe and the Kenduskeag Stream canals, appear in “It” and other novels, including “Insomnia,” “Dreamcatcher,” “11/22/63,” and others. For an aspiring novelist, there’s nothing more scintillating than sleeping in a famous writer’s former home. Scott Turow—acclaimed author of 11 novels and three nonfiction titles—once lived in this 10,800-square-foot manse in Glencoe, IL, 25 miles north of Chicago.
It recently sold for $5.15 million after nearly two months on the market. Turow owned the home from 2001 to 2009, according to Crain’s Chicago Business.
Listed with Marlene Rubenstein of Baird & Warner Highland Park for $5.5 million, the modern home was built in 1997 and designed by Tony Grunsfeld. Sitting on the shores of Lake Michigan, the five-bedroom home is packed with luxe amenities.

She and husband Steve Humphrey designed a beautiful mansion on a hill in Montecito, CA. It’s listed with a new price of $6,999,000, after going on the market earlier this year with an $8.5 million price tag.
The five-bedroom, 5.5-bath home was completed in 2010. Grafton, who also spent time in her native Kentucky, where she owned another stylish estate, filled the coastal California property with a distinctive mix of SoCal cool and Southern charm. The author died in late 2017, after completing “Y is for Yesterday,” her last novel in the series.
