Yesterday Donald Trump announced that he’s cutting off all U.S. funding for the World Health Organization. Trump claimed that the WHO is responsible for missing the coronavirus. In reality, while the WHO made some mistakes when it came to believing China, it was Donald Trump who most thoroughly and negligently ignored the coronavirus threat.
Halting funding for the World Health Organization during a world health crisis is as dangerous as it sounds. Their work is slowing the spread of COVID-19 and if that work is stopped no other organization can replace them. The world needs @WHO now more than ever.

Bill Gates is right. Whatever you think of how the WHO handled the coronavirus, it did a far better job than Donald Trump did. And if the WHO is too much in China’s back pocket, then the most effective way for the United States to turn this around would be to provide more funding for the WHO, not less. Trump doesn’t understand how anything works.
